Your city’s green efforts can bring green returns.
Established in 2004 by The United States Conference of Mayors and Novelis, Cans for Cash™ City Recycling Challenge offers a range of new prize offerings and program rules in 2012.
Cities can participate for awards in two categories:
Most Cans Collected Award
Awards will be presented to the top three cities that collect the most recyclable aluminum beverage cans over a continuous four-week (28 day) period between March 1 and April 30, 2012.
-
First Place - $25,000
- Second Place - $15,000
- Third Place - $5,000
Winning cities will be determined by the ratio of the city population to the total number of cans recycled. Receipt documentation from scrap resellers and/or third-party recycling centers will be required. For the first time ever, cities who use single stream recycling can now participate in this category by providing audit data.
Most Innovative Ideas Award
Awards will be presented to the top three cities with the most innovative ideas for promoting aluminum beverage can recycling.
-
First Place - $25,000
- Second Place - $15,000
- Third Place - $5,000
Cities must submit an application form detailing their efforts and are encouraged to include sample materials created such as posters, e-mails, web pages, door hangers, photographs from events, press releases, social media activities, etc.
The City Recycling Challenge is free and there are no enrollment charges or fees.
